Keeping it Cool

By Coquettish in Events, Weddings

Whether you’re hosting a garden luncheon, kiddie birthday party, or oceanside wedding this summer, it’s important to keep your guests cool and comfortable in the heat. Here are some great ways to chill out at your event.

With warm weather events, it’s best to keep the menu light, both in size and flavor. Try chilled shots of asparagus soup or a zesty gazpacho for a cocktail party.

For something more substantial, heirloom tomatoes are great for the summer. Keep proteins light and opt for fresh seafood dishes like ceviche.

Remember the Snoopy Snow Cone maker? Reinvent the icy treat and serve these at a birthday party with colored syrup and sprinkles so the kids decorate their own. For an adult event, try a simple Italian granita lightly flavored with ginger and lemon or grapefruit served in pretty glassware. Add a splash of champagne or liquor for a frosty cocktail.

Give your cupcake tower a summer update with Ice Cream Cupcakes by Cold Stone Creamery.  Just be sure you have a place to keep them cold before dessert time.

French macaroons are ever so popular now with their soft colors and delicate taste. Try ice cream filled macaroons for a cooler variety. Word has it that One Girl Cookies in Brooklyn, NY is carries them for $4 each.

Here are a few extra items that your guests will appreciate.  A pretty display of some essential items like sunscreen and insect repellent wipes. Consider parasols for sun protection or fans that your guests can take as a keepsake. For a kids party, try setting out an arts and crafts table where kids can decorate paper fans.

Most importantly, keep your guests hydrated in the heat to avoid any manic meltdowns. Personalize water bottles or offer a yummy infused water station. If you want to send along some Planet Earth love, give each of your guests an aluminum  water bottle that they can use that day and take home.
