Jelly Beans & Daisies

Written by , Posted in Flowers

Coquette Events was asked to create fun, youthful centerpieces for a celebration in honor of a very special little girl at New York City’s famous soul food restaurant, Amy Ruth’s.

Jelly beans were the inspiration for these colorful arrangements.  Pastel jelly beans and Gerbera Daises were used to create these centerpieces that doubled as table numbers.  For additional pops of color, we placed bunches of yellow and pink daises around the room.

Congrats to Baby D on her big day!

Red Carpet at the Oscars

Written by , Posted in Dresses, Fashion

What better way to kick off our new blog than by dishing about one of the most glamorous nights in Hollywood? The Oscars represent the epitome of event planning – glitz, glam, and money to spend! It requires countless hours of preparation on behalf of all participants, be it presenter, nominee, and the people backstage. Each year’s event is in competition with the last.

Of course, it doesn’t stop there. The awards ceremony is just the crux of what is sure to be a week of pre and post parties filled with amazing décor and swag.

Here at Coquetteish, we want to highlight some of our favorite Oscars.

We love Neil Patrick Harris and his fabulously blinging tuxedo and entourage of showgirls. Very inspiring for a themed birthday or engagement party!

The stage – talk about effortlessly elegant. The lights and hanging crystals were eye catching but didn’t distract from what was happening on-stage. We’ll definitely hold onto these photos as inspiration for centerpieces and ceremony backdrops.

Our favorite trends of the night were the fairy dusted metallics and soft, feminine dresses in blushed shades and watercolor prints. The Oscar fashions were rounded off by a good sprinkling of sculpted couture gowns and sapphire hued frocks.

Sandra Bullock hit the red carpet looking like a dreamy version of an Oscar. Her delicious gold Marchesa is to-die-for and how amazing does her body look? We even love that she dishes with Ryan Seacrest about the yummy burger and fries she’s going to be eating right after the show – love the honesty! What bride can’t relate to stressing and starving (we don’t suggest this) to be the most glorious version of herself on her wedding day? Perfectly understated accessories let her dress take center stage.

Demi Moore looked stunning in her ruffled silk organza Atelier Versace gown. Her dress is captivating with a ruched detailed bodice and endless layers of ruffles on the skirt. The soft neutral tones perfectly compliment her skin. She keeps the rest of her look simple with drop earrings, neutral makeup and a relaxed updo with a feminine wisp framing her face. She’s sure come a long way since 1989!

Anna Kendrick made her way down the red carpet in a soft pink off the shoulder Elie Saab gown. We love how delicate the gown looks with the hand draping, floral detailing, and peek-a-boo lace. Her look is perfectly accented with tan platform sandals, an undone chignon and diamond teardrop earrings. The dress is an extension of her sweet and genuine personality.

Meryl Streep looked amazing and vibrant in a white-hot draped long sleeve gown from Project Runway alum Chris March. The deep V adds just the right amount of sexy to her ensemble. She accented her outfit with chunky earrings, a bold bangle, a Swarovski silver mesh clutch and silver strappy sandals. This outfit is much more effective than a facelift!

Vera Farmiga is a walking piece of art in her ruby Marchesa gown. Strikingly bold, this ensemble is perfect for the Academy Award nominated starlet. Another job well done with understated accessories and loosely upswept hair.

And last but not least, we must do a nod to our bombshells in blue. Looking at these dresses side by side just goes to show that mix and match bridesmaid dresses can be very of the moment!

Maggie Gyllenhaal was one of the few ladies who braved the red carpet in a printed frock. The vivid blue hues of her Dries Van Noten column gown complement her flawless skin and the sleek fit does wonders for her slender body. She looks young, fresh, and sexy. Of course Miss Jamie was already thinking – printed bridesmaid dresses please!

Rachel McAdams looked ethereal in a beautiful watercolor printed Elie Saab gown. The romantic gown featured a subtle sweetheart neckline, hand pleated bodice, and a beautiful swirling print of blues, pinks and greens. I love the addition of the chandelier earrings to add a touch of bling to her look. The smokier hues bring a bit of edginess to this gown giving it just the right amount of sexy oomph.

A Little Bit About Us…

Written by , Posted in Featured Vendors

Since we know each other so well, we had Jamie’s sister ask us some questions so you could get to know us a little better.

If you could live in any TV or Movie setting, what would it be?

  • (Jamie) The Cosby Show – I was always envious of how Clair Huxtable had it all — a successful career, a loving husband and adorable children. She was the epitome of a modern woman and proved that you can be successful in both your career and at home.
  • (Andrea) Sex and the City – While it sounds cliché, living in Manhattan I already feel as though I’m half way there. But of course, what could make my life better?? An amazing collection of shoes, bags, and designer duds. And, what Manhattan-ite doesn’t envy the real estate on that show? Even the starving writer has more space than me!

What did you like most about your wedding?

  • (Jamie) I was able to blend the traditions of my Chinese heritage into a modern day American wedding. We had an intimate tea ceremony for our immediate families where I wore a red Chinese cheong sam that was custom made in Shanghai. Then I changed into my white dress and followed the American customs – my father escorted me down the aisle, danced for the first time with my new husband and we fed each other cake. I think incorporating both our Chinese and American cultures really meant a lot to our parents since we are the first to get married on both sides.
  • (Andrea) I loved everything about our wedding! But if I had to pick, I’d say our ceremony was special because it was so “us.” We were married by a friend who shared sweet, but funny stories about us. We wrote our own vows and they were a perfect reflection of our relationship – loving, honest, and with a touch of humor. We wanted the reception to be one big party and tried to incorporate fun and unique things for our guests. Our live band, photo booth, cigar bar and taco truck definitely kept everyone entertained and on their toes!

What three words would your husband (or friends) use to describe you?

  • (Jamie) tenacious, resourceful and engaging
  • (Andrea) outgoing, passionate, creative

List the contents of your purse.

  • (Jamie) wallet, business cards, lip balm, multiple lip glosses, blotting sheets, hair tie & claw clip, blackberry, ipod touch, 2 pens, purse hook, Bagu reusable shopping bags, USB Flash drive, keys, notebook and calendar (yes I’m old school and keep a paper calendar)
  • (Andrea) wallet, lip gloss, chapstick, eyeliner, blackberry, iphone, keys, hair tie, and just like Jamie – a notebook and calendar. (There’s just something better about writing things down yourself.)

How many lip glosses do you own?

  • (Jamie) Probably about 15 and numerous lip balms
  • (Andrea) My guess is 8 + at least 3 cherry Chapsticks

What meal would you cook to impress someone?

  • (Jamie) My husband does most of the cooking (I’m a lucky gal), but IF I had to cook, I’d probably start with a spinach salad with candied pecans, strawberries, cherry tomatoes and a poppy seed dressing.  For the entree, I’d serve lasagna and a side of green beans with toasted almonds.
  • (Andrea) A big Chinese meal: soup, garlic fried snow pea leaves, steamed fish, black bean chicken, and maybe some garlic noodles to finish it all off.

Describe your wedding shoes.

  • (Jamie) I knew I definitely wanted color! After we finalized our color palette, I was on the hunt for the perfect pair of yellow shoes – I didn’t want it to look Easter-ish nor too gold. I ended up finding a beautiful pair of marigold satin peep toe pumps – it had subtle pleating and knot detailing at the front of the shoe.

  • (Andrea) I always knew I wanted to wear red shoes on my wedding day. After buying, trying, and returning at least 8 pairs of red shoes, I landed a pair of rich red satin peep toes with a ruffled t-strap. Bold, fun, and flirty – a perfect fit.
